Funeral Arrangements For Steve Donavon

Steven Jon Donovan, age 58, of La Farge, died unexpectedly on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Vernon Memorial Healthcare. He was born in LaCrosse on February 26, 1953, the son of Donnie R. and Carol (Peterson) Donovan. Following graduation from La Farge High School, Steve proudly served in the United States Navy during the Viet Nam era. He was united in marriage with Gail Bergum on September 2, 1972 at the Cashton Lutheran Church. They raised their family together in La Farge, where Steve was very community oriented. He served on the LaFarge School Board and was a past member of the Lions Club. He served on the Board of Bethel Parkside, and advocated for them building in La Farge. He did the same for CROPP, and most recently for the La Farge Fire and Emergency Services building, having served on and retiring from the Fire Department. Steve has served more than 20 years on the La Farge Village Board, currently as their president. He retired from the Toro Company as Senior Materials Manager, having worked for the company 30 years, beginning on the floor. He loved fishing and spending time with his family, especially with his much loved nieces, nephews, and granddaughter.

Steve was preceded in death by his devoted grandparents Gladys and Pete Peterson, by his father, grandparents Lena Burkhart, Benny Burkhart, and Donald Donovan, his father in law Layton Bergum and his brother in law Drew Bergum.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the La Farge Free Methodist Church. Pastor Mark Phillips will officiate and burial will be in the Bear Creek Cemetery with military rites by the Jones Lawrence VFW Post 9075. Friends and family may call at the church on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 from 4 PM until 8 PM or on Thursday from 11:00 AM until service time at 1:00. The Seland Huston Funeral Home is assisting the family with their arrangements
