Funeral Services For Gen Parr

Genevieve C. Parr, 92, of Burlington/LaFarge, died Monday, January 25, 2010 at the Norseland Nursing Home in Westby. She was born January 23, 1918 in LaFarge the daughter of Robert and Caroline (Peterson) Bailey. On July 3, 1938 Genevieve married Ray Parr at the Free Methodist Church in LaFarge. Genevieve attended Normal in Viroqua. She worked as an operator at the telephone office for several years until returning to school in La Crosse. Genevieve taught at rural schools until 1959 when she and Ray moved to Burlington, where she continued teaching 1st and 2nd grade until her retirement in 1990. Genevieve loved to travel especially to Hawaii where she went seven times. She learned to crochet and quilt. Genevieve taught Hmongs to read while living in Burlington. She was a member of the LaFarge and Burlington Free Methodist Churches.

Genevieve is survived by two daughters, Delores (Robert) Martin of Burlington, Verona (Blaine) Phillips of LaFarge, Six grandchildren, Randy Martin, Teresa Vogt, Jeff Martin, Mark Phillips, Connie Wegner, Carrie Tunks, 10 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter, Brother Bill (Janet) Bailey of Georgia, Brother-in-law, Herb Anderson of LaFarge, many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ray, and sister Florine Anderson.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 12:00 PM at the LaFarge Free Methodist Church with Pastor Mark Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in the Bear Creek Cemetery. Friends may call at the LaFarge Free Methodist Church on Saturday, January 30, 2010 from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at 12:00 PM. The Seland Huston Funeral Home of LaFarge is assisting the family with their arrangements
